The story
Plate 5 of Urania's Mirror, a set of 32 constellation cards published in London by Samuel Leigh of 18 Strand, in this copy of about 1825: an etching, coloured by hand, on layered paper board. Each card is pierced at its stars, the holes sized to their brightness, so that held up to a lamp the constellation shines through. This one carries Andromeda; Triangula, a pair of triangles of faint stars; and Gloria Frederici, the glory of Frederick, which Johann Bode set in the sky in 1787 for Frederick the Great, king of Prussia. It is no longer in use. The engraving is by Sidney Hall.

- If it arrives less than perfect, we reprint or refund — your choice.
Why our charts cost more than a poster: we print from the highest-resolution scans in existence, at sizes where the engraving itself becomes visible — the gold figures, the tiny stars, the cartouches — on a matte sheet that shows every line without glare.
